Residents needing to renew their car tags or pay property taxes won’t need to head to the courthouse after the Newton County Tax Collector’s office added an online payment option.
The online payment system, which is offered through Delta Harris Computer Services, was approved by the Board of Supervisors April 6. The additional service was added at a cost of $4,750 with a $450 monthly maintenance fee.
Tax Assessor May Bender told the board adding online payments would make renewals and payments more convenient for residents as well as cut down on the foot traffic in and out of her office.
Currently, the Tax Collector’s office is offering window service only as a precaution against the spread of Covid-19. With the new system in place, residents have the option to go online to newton.pay1stop.com to pay property taxes and renew car tags without leaving the house.
The Tax Assessor’s office has also extended a contract with Three Rivers Planning and Development for printing and mailing solid waste bills.
Bender told the Board of Supervisors during the April 6 meeting the cost to the county would be the same. The only change, she said, was the contracted time, which was extended from one year to four years.
