During their meeting Tuesday night, the Newton Board of Alderman discussed closing water bill accounts after 90 days of non-payment. Board Attorney Brian Mayo cautioned the board there could be some due process issues that had come out from federal court cases in regards to water being a necessity. The Board decided to continue the discussion at their next meeting when Mayo could brief the board more thoroughly before proceeding.
The board also discussed having a police officer on hand at 5 p.m., which is when people start filing in for the board meeting. Mayor Murray Weems also added they will hopefully be adding security when they start renovations at city hall.
