High School Football Preview: Tigers and Hornets face off Friday for much needed win

A pair of struggling teams meet this week at E.L. Morgan field as the Newton Tigers host the Lake Hornets.

Newton is 1-4 on the season and coming off a 46-16 loss to Leake County while Lake is 2-3 and coming off a 35-22 loss to Union.

Lake coach Tate Hanna said the young Newton team worries him.

Softball: Lady Generals fall in first round of North 2A Tourney

The Newton County Academy softball team saw its season come to an end this week.

The Lady Generals lost in the opening round of the North 2A Tournament to Central Holmes but then rallied to beat Carroll 104 and Delta 14-13. They then lost to Indianola 4-3 to see their season come to an end.
