The Newton County girls’ soccer team picked up a big playoff win last week.

The Lady Cougars opened the Class 4A playoffs with a 2-1 win over Pontotoc. Earlier in the week, Newton County beat Choctaw Central 2-0 to secure second in the division. County then finished the regular season with a 4-0 loss to Florence.

It’s play time!

It didn’t take long for the students at Union Elementary School to figure out what might be the best new piece of equipment on the new playground at the school.

It was the zip line.

“I’ve never been on a zip line before,” said fourth grader Sadler Tillman.”That’s probably my favorite thing here.”

Bobcats pick up first division wins

The Sebastopol basketball teams opened up division 3-1A play this week and game away with a pair of wins.

The Lady Bobcats opened with a 40-12 win over Ethel while the Bobcats followed up with a 52-38 win.

In the Scott County Tournament, the Lady Bobcats lost 48-19 to Forest while the Bobcats lost 60-51 to Lake.

Generals open district play with important wins

The Newton County Academy basketball teams got a sweep to open district play last week.

The Lady Generals opened district play with a 54-21 blowout win over Kemper Academy while the Generals took a hard-fought 28-22 win over the Rams.
