I heard from Faye Phillips of Faye’s Hair Corner in Union. She is making remarkable progress after the surgery she had on her hand for carpal tunnel syndrome. She plans to reopen the shop on June 13. Great news, Faye!
The June chapter meeting for the Writers Guild was held at the Ole Union Opry House on Saturday, June 2. Amanda Tero, published author of short stories, novelettes and novels, was our speaker. Ralph Gordon, Pam Hillman and I were present to learn the processes she has used and uses to write, edit, publish and market her work. Amanda has a new book which will release June 8, “Quest for Leviathan.” You can find Amanda’s books on Amazon or purchase directly from her. I bought three books from her yesterday and am eager to get a chance to dig into them.
Pam Hillman has a new book that will be released on June 5. It is the second of her Natchez Trace Novel series, a sequel to “Promise of Breeze Hill,” about another of the O’Shea brothers. The new book is titled “The Road to Magnolia Glen.” Watch for it on Amazon and in Christian and other book stores or in the faith and inspiration book section in Walmart. I have pre-ordered it and anxiously anticipate delivery this week.
I am so proud of all the writers connected with our local chapter. Most of us started out as strangers in the beginning, but we are good friends now.
I thank Jim Ogletree for allowing us to use the Ole Union Opry House to hold these meetings. It really is a good venue, with plenty of room, tables, seating and a stage for the speaker, should she/he choose to use it. The next meeting is scheduled there the first Saturday in August, which will be the 4th. I really hope that we will have a better turn-out next time.
You do not have to be a member to attend. It is for published and non-published writers of all categories, fiction and non-fiction, adventure, romance, man or woman interest, children’s books, religious or with no religious slant, and for those who need help and inspiration to get started on their dream to write. No children, please, as we are very serious about our purpose without the distraction.
For anyone who would like to come but is not familiar with the location, it is the unmarked building with black curtains over the windows, right next to H&R Block, and directly across the street from House of Hope. You can also speak to me about our meetings at either of the methods at the end of this article.
Travis and I went to Jackson on Sunday to have lunch at Chili’s restaurant. On the way home we stopped for a few minutes to see Summer and little Henry. Be in prayer for him. He is not keeping food on his stomach. The formula has been changed three times with the same results, he loses everything he eats. He is three weeks old and has only gained a half-pound. They are going to take him to children’s hospital this week.
Until next week, may God be with you and yours.
