I know I write about the Union Public School District a good bit; however, the success of our local school system cannot be overstated. The teachers at Union prepare students for college better than most others in Mississippi and have recently been rated an “A” district by the Mississippi Department of Education. In my own experience, my college successes have been in large part due to the excellent teachers at Union High School. Furthermore, the current focus on vocational programs keeps more students in school. Union High School has balanced both a traditional curriculum and vocational programs to cater to the needs and interests of all its students, providing them all with excellent preparation for college or further vocational training.
When I started college at the University of West Alabama last year, I enjoyed much success in my educational career. This success is entirely a result of the fantastic teachers at Union High School. Many of my peers did not have the writing skills I had learned from the English teachers at Union. Many Union alumni also have had similar experiences.
Furthermore, Union High School has also hired many new teachers to teach the new vocational programs, which allow students to choose a program that better suits their own interests. This has given Union High School a graduation rate of 88.2%. Students also participate in many different extracurricular activities that teach many life lessons and give them better scholarship potential for college. The teachers at Union High School provide high-quality education that allows students to succeed in college or in any other option they choose after high school.
Union Public Schools has recently earned an “A” rating by the Mississippi Department of Education. This “A” rating not only shows that Union students have consistently scored extremely well on state tests, but that Union Public Schools has also been making improvements in graduation rates, curriculum and many other areas. Although state tests are controversial because of their lack of effectiveness, Union students performed extremely well on them. Union Elementary School earned the collective highest score and was rated an “A.” Union Middle School gained a total of 44 points and was rated a “B.” Union High School was rated a “B” and excelled in state tests in English, math, biology and United States history. Union High School’s rating also factored in graduation rate, acceleration rate and college preparation. The entire district earned the rating of an “A” and gives our community one more thing to be proud of.
The Union Public School District is one of the top schools in the state of Mississippi, and both the teachers and students should be proud of Union Public Schools’ success. The phenomenal teachers and staff prepare students for college and other careers like no others in Mississippi. Union High School gives students an excellent well-rounded education that will serve as the cornerstone for their future careers.
