Residents are invited to journey along with Rapunzel, Cinderella and Little Red Ridinghood Saturday as Newton Theatre Company debuts its production of “Into the Woods” at Roxy Theatre.
The hit Broadway musical tells the story of a poor baker who embarks on an adventure through a mashup of classic fairytales, collecting magical items to break a curse placed on his family by an evil witch.
Jessica Price, co-director and actor for “Into the Woods,” said the production is a musical journey through a wide range of fairy tales and will feature appearances such as the Wolf from “Little Red Riding Hood” and Jack from “Jack and the Beanstalk.”
“Into the Woods” debuted in San Diego in 1986 and premiered on Broadway the following year, winning multiple Tony Awards including Best Score and Best Book.
Last month, Newton Theatre Company hosted Broadway veteran Chuck Wagner, who was one of the original cast members of the Broadway production of “Into the Woods.” Price said having an opportunity to learn from the best was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and adds an extra element to Newton Theatre Company’s production.
Newton Theatre Company will host four performances of “Into the Woods” over the next two weekends. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, and again at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 and 2 p.m. Oct. 27.
Tickets for all showings are on sale now and cost $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
