The Newton County Board of Supervisors awarded scholarships Monday to two Decatur students through the Mississippi Association of Supervisors County Employee Scholarship program.
Lauren Addy and Aleese Brooklyn Loper, both of Decatur, were each presented with $500 checks to apply toward their college education.
The MAS County Employee Scholarship program is open to all dependents of retired or current county employees across Mississippi’s 82 counties. This year, MAS awarded $33,000 to high school graduates throughout the state.
“The MAS County Employee Scholarship program is one way that our association can give back to the employees of our counties,” said Derrick Surrette, MAS executive director. “We hope to have an even greater response to the program next year.”
Addy and Loper said they will put their scholarships to good use as both plan to attend East Central Community College in the fall.
