Although coronavirus has kept students from attending school since March, the pandemic proved unable to stop seniors at Newton County High School from donning their caps and gowns.
In a drive-up graduation ceremony Thursday and Friday, seniors and their families attended individual graduations in front of the High School where they had the opportunity to walk the stage and receive their diplomas.
Superintendent J.O. Amis said virus or no virus, the district wanted to recognize the seniors for their accomplishments and celebrate their graduation. The individual ceremonies were a way to do that while keeping the students, families and school staff safe.
“It’s been going really well,” he said Friday.
Each student’s walk and graduation throughout the two-day event was captured on video by the district. Amis said the videos will be complied into a graduation film that will be published on the Newton County School District’s website.
“It’ll go live at 8 p.m. May 15,” he said.
