The Lake Lady Hornets kicked off the softball season by winning three out of four games this past week.
Lake opened with a tight 7-6 win over Kosciusko on Tuesday and then hammered Raleigh 18-1 on Thursday. After a 14-4 loss to Northwest Rankin on Friday, Lake bounced back with a 10-0 win over Morton on Saturday.
Lake is now 3-1 on the season and will return to play this week, as on Thursday, Lake will travel to 5A power Neshoba Central and then play in the Raleigh Tournament on Saturday.
Lake 7, Kosciusko 6 (8)
Lake scored one in the bottom of the eighth as Abbie McGee drove in Katlyn Lott on a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded.
Lake outhit Kosciusko 10-7 in the contest as McGee was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Taylor Duncan was 2-for-3 with two walks while Brantlee McGee was 2-for-4 with a triple. Josie Gibbs singled and drove in two runs while Laneisha Palm scored two runs.
Kate Gladney got the start and pitched five innings, giving up five runs on five hits while striking out four. Duncan pitched the last three innings to pick up the win, giving up one run on two hits and striking out four.
Lake 18, Raleigh 1
Abbie McGee was 3-for-3 with a double while Laurel Breland was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Katlyn Lott was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs while Brantlee McGee was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Taylor Duncan scored three runs while Gracie McKee, Sadie Thompson and Tra’Shaylah Wilson each scored two runs. Kate Gladney and Thompson each had two RBIs in the contest.
Gladney pitched four innings and gave up just one hit and struck out two while Brantlee McGee pitched one inning and gave up one run on three hits.
Northwest Rankin 14, Lake 4
Northwest Rankin outhit Lake 14-9 in the contest. Taylor Duncan was 2-for-2 with two walks while Katlyn Lott was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Brantlee McGee also tripled and drove in a run.
Kate Gladney started and pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits while Taylor Duncan pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up six runs on five hits while striking out two.
Lake 10, Morton 0
Lake had nine hits on the day as Brantlee McGee was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Taylor Duncan was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored while Kate Gladney was 2-for-4 with a double. Alaina Alford singled and drove in two runs while Laneisha Palm scored two runs and had two stolen bases.
Gladney pitched all seven innings and scattered four hits while striking out 12.
