The Lake Lady Hornets picked up four wins this week including a sweep of Newton on Saturday.
The Lady Hornets beat Newton 16-1 and 16-0 on Saturday. On Friday, Lake shut out Pisgah 14-0 and beat Kosciusko 7-6 on Monday.
The Lady Hornets improved to 13-4 on the season and have won five in a row. Lake is scheduled to host Choctaw Central on Saturday and travel to Philadelphia on Tuesday. On Thursday, Lake will host Philadelphia to finish out the week.
Lake 16, Newton 1
The Lady Hornets scored 14 runs in the first inning and took a three-inning, run-rule win.
Newton scored one in the top of the first on a home run by Zia Shields who was 2-for-2. Newton answered with 14 runs in bottom of the first and single runs in the second and third.
Lake had 11 hits in the contest as Abbie McGee was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs. Josie Gibbs was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Laurel Breland tripled and scored two runs while Taylor Duncan had a home run and drove in two runs. Lyric Lay, Brantlee McGee and Laneisha Palm each scored two runs while Sadie Thompson drove in two runs.
Kate Gladney pitched three innings and gave up one run on two hits while striking out six.
Lake 16, Newton 0
The Lady Hornets didn’t allow a hit as they took a three-inning, run-rule win over the Lady Tigers on Saturday.
Lake scored 13 runs in the first inning and finished with three in the second.
Lake had nine hits as Abbie McGee was 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored. Kate Gladney was also 2-for-2 while Taylor Duncan had a home run and scored two runs. Laneisha Palm doubled, scored two runs and drove in two runs while Brantlee McGee tripled and scored two runs. Lyric Lay, Laurel Breland and Katlyn Lott each scored two runs apiece while Josie Gibbs and Grace McKee each had two RBIs.
Duncan started and pitched 2/3 of an inning and struck out two while Gladney pitched 2 1/3 innings and struck out five without giving up a hit.
Lake 14, Pisgah 0
The Lady Hornets got rolling in the late innings and rolled to a run-rule win on Friday over the Lady Dragons.
Lake scored two runs in the third, five in the fourth and seven in the fifth.
Lake outhit Pisgah 14-3 in the contest. Josie Gibbs was 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Taylor Duncan was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two RBIs. Gracie McKee was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Kate Gladney had a home run and four RBIs while Abbie McGee was 2-for-4 with a double. Katlyn Lott doubled and drove in two runs while Laneisha Palm doubled and scored two runs. Tra’Shaylah Wilson also scored two runs.
Duncan started and pitched five innings and gave up three hits and two walks while striking out nine.
Lake 7, Kosciusko 6
The Lady Hornets held off a late rally by the Lady Whippets to take a one-run win on Monday.
Kosciusko scored single runs in the first and third and three in the third and led 5-3 after four innings. Lake then scored two in the fifth to tie and two in the seventh while Kosciusko scored one in the bottom of the seventh.
Lake had 10 hits in the contest as Josie Gibbs was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Taylor Duncan was 2-for-3 with two doubles while Laurel Breland and Josie Gibbs each doubled.
Kate Gladney started and pitched six innings, giving up five runs on 11 hits and three walks while striking out two. Taylor Duncan pitched the last inning and gave up one run on two hits while striking out two to pick up the save.
