The Lake Lady Hornets claimed the Division 5-2A championship this past week with a sweep of Union.
The Lady Hornets dominated the Union series behind the strong pitching of Kate Gladney, winning 10-1 on Tuesday and 12-2 on Thursday.
Lake finished out the week with a 5-0 loss to Raleigh.
Lake, now 21-6 on the season will finish out the regular season on Tuesday as they host Morton for senior night. Lake will be off for the remainder of the week and begin the playoff the following Monday and Tuesday.
Lake 10, Union 1
The Lady Hornets used a steady supply of offense to take a nine-run win over the Lady Yellowjackets on Tuesday.
Union scored its only run in the top of the first before Lake answered with two in the bottom of the frame. Lake then added one in the second and four in the fourth, followed by one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Lake outhit Union 14-3 in the contest while the Lady Yellowjackets committed six errors.
Taylor Duncan had a huge game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs, two runs scored and four RBIs. Abbie McGee was 3-for-4 while Josie Gibbs was 3-for-4 with a double. Brantlee McKee was 2-for-4 with a double while Katlyn Lot was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Kate Gladney pitched all seven innings and gave up one unearned run on three hits and a walk while striking out three.
Ashlyn Jenkins doubled and drove in Union’s only run.
Alanee Wheeler pitched all six innings for Union and gave up 10 runs on 14 hits and two walks while striking out four.
Lake 12, Union 2
The Lady Hornets scored nine runs in the top of the first and cruised to a five-inning, run-rule win on Thursday to claim the division championship.
After scoring nine in the first, Union scored two in the bottom of the first. Lake added three runs in the top of the third for the final margin.
Lake outhit Union 13-3 in the contest. Taylor Duncan had another big night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Brantlee McGee was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and four RBIs while Josie Gibbs was 2-for-4 with a double. Kate Gladney was 2-for-3 with a double while Laurel Breland singled and scored two runs.

Ashlyn Jenkins singled and drove in two runs for Union while Anna Grace Blount singled and scored a run. Kenley Pullin also singled while D.D. Hunter scored Union’s other run.
Britli Cleveland started in the circle for Lake and pitched all five innings, giving up 12 runs, only four earned, on 13 hits and three walks while striking out two.
Raleigh 5, Lake 0
The Lady Hornets struggled at the plate as the Lady Lions took a shutout win on Friday.
Raleigh scored three in the third and single runs in the fifth and sixth.
Raleigh outhit Lake 8-6 in the contest. Brantlee McGee was 2-for-3 in the contest while Taylor Duncan doubled. Laurel Breland, Josie Gibbs and Katlyn Lott all singled.
Kate Gladney pitched all seven innings and gave up five runs, only two earned on eight hits and four walks while striking out nine.
