It’s not unusual to see a Newton basketball team at the Big House.
But even veteran coach Crandal Porter said the 2023 team did something special in making the Final Four, where they lost to eventual champion Coahoma County 45-32.
Newton beat East Marion 68-62 in the quarterfinals behind a 32-point effort from Tavion White.
