BASEBALL: Lanier, McGee pitch perfect innings in sweep

The Lake Hornets had a perfect start to the Class 2A playoffs last week.

After falling 7-5 to Union in the regular-season finale, Lake pitched two perfect games, beating Velma Jackson 15-0 and 20-0 on Friday in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Baseball: Bobcats crush West Bolivar, advance

The Sebastopol Bobcats used a pair of no-hit pitching efforts to easily sweep West Bolivar in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.

After a 7-5 loss to Puckett on Tuesday, Sebastopol swept West Bolivar in a doubleheader on Friday, winning 13-0 in game 1 and 19-1 in game 2.

Softball: Lake sweeps Mize to advance

The Lady Hornets began their defense of their Class 2A state championship last week.

After a tough 8-7, 11-inning loss to Enterprise on Tuesday to finish out the regular season. Lake then swept Mize to open the playoffs, beat the Lady Bulldogs 10-0 on Friday and 9-1 on Saturday.

TRACK AND FIELD: Tigers send 10 to state meet

The Newton High School track and field team will have 10 different athletes compete at the Class 2A state meet on Friday at Pearl High School.

According to the state website, the first events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
