BASKETBALL: Buckley competes in all-star game

Union’s Madison Buckley competed in the Magnolia State All-Star game for the South team. The event was held Friday through Sunday at Mississippi Valley State University. The South won the game 68-64.

SOFTBALL: Lady Hornets rebound from Kosy losses

The Lake Lady Hornets got in four games last week and came away with two wins.

Lake lost a pair of games to Kosciusko last week, falling 9-3 on Saturday and 5-2 on Saturday. Lake got a pair of wins in their other contests as they beat Nanih Waiya 16-1 and Pelahatchie on Thursday.

TENNIS: Generals place three at area tennis tournament

It was a busy week for the Newton County Academy tennis team.

In match action, the Generals went 1-1 as they beat Northeast Lauderdale 5-2 but lost 4-2 to West Lauderdale.

NCA also hosted the All-Area Tennis Tournament and won both girls doubles positions and also won at the No. 2 boys singles.

TENNIS: Cougars split four matches

It was a busy week for the Newton County tennis team with five matches.

The Cougars went 2-3 on the week as they beat Division 5-4A foes Northeast Jones 4-3 and Richland 6-1.

On Friday and Saturday, County played at Oxford and Lost to Hernando 5-2, Lafayette County 4-3 and Oxford 7-0.
