BASKETBALL: Tigers win at Classic

The Newton Tigers only got in one game last week but were able to come away with a big win.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead and held on to take a 66-60 win over Louisville on Saturday at the East Central Community College Holiday Classic.

BASKETBALL: NCA teams go 1-1 against Prentiss, Lamar

The Newton County Academy basketball teams split a pair of games this past week, sweeping Prentiss Christian but falling to Lamar School.

The NCA girls beat Prentiss 46-16 while the boys won 60-49. The Lady Generals then lost 58-27 to Lamar School while the Generals lost 65-30 to the Raiders.

The East Central Community College Lady Warrior soccer program had two more players sign to continue their playing careers at the four-year level this week. Sasha Clare (Belfast, United Kingdom) and Olivia Clark (Decatur) inked with Delta State University and the Mississippi University for Women, respectively.
