FOOTBALL: NEWTON 30, QUITMAN 24 — Tigers build lead, fend off Panther comeback

Newton football coach Zach Grady has said he wants his offense to be more balanced, especially as the Tigers get to district play.

Grady got his wish as the Tigers put up 349 yards of total offense and beat Quitman 30-24 on Friday night.

Newton improves to 2-1 on the season and will travel to Heidelberg on Friday night.

After watching Scott Central on film, Newton County football coach Bobby Bass was worried about the Rebels’ big-play ability.

Those concerns were well founded as the Rebels used the big plays to take a 36-13 win over the Cougars on Friday night.

Newton County falls to 0-3 on the season and will travel to Union on Friday night.

Olivia Clark (Decatur) was tabbed MACCC Keeper of the Week after another stellar week guarding the Lady Warriors’ net. Clark, a sophomore, posted a clean sheet last week as the Lady Warriors defeated the No. 19 Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs, 1-0.
