Mize ousts Hornets from the playoffs despite hit advantage

Despite outhitting Mize 19-12 in the series, Lake saw its season come an end on Friday.

The Hornets fell 4-2 on Thursday despite not giving up an earned run and then fell 10-2 on Friday to see their season come to an end.

Lake finishes the season with a 21-6 record.

Newton County falls in playoffs

The Wyatt Tullos era came to an end at Newton County this past week.

The Cougars were eliminated from the Class 4A playoffs on Saturday as they were defeated by North Pike 2-1, falling 4-2 on Thursday, winning 7-0 on Friday and losing 8-4 on Saturday.

The Cougars finish the season with a 16-13 record.

Lake heads to state finals

Lake’s Taylor Duncan showed Taylorsville why she is a Division I softball signee.

Duncan won games 1 and 3 of the series, throwing a no-hitter on Friday and allowing two hits in the decision game 3 and also hitting a grand slam to break open the game and secure the series for the Lady Hornets.
