The Newton County tennis team split a pair of matches this week, falling 6-1 to private-school power Jackson Prep.
They bounced back with a 7-0 division win over Northeast Lauderdale to improve to 3-3 on the season.
Newton County will play two matches on the Coast early this week as they are scheduled to play St. Luke’s Academy in Mobile on Monday at 6 p.m. On Tuesday, they will play at Ocean Springs to round out spring break
County will return from spring break and travel to Northwest Rankin on Monday and then go to Jackson Academy on Thursday. On Saturday, County will host Florence at 10 a.m. and South Pontotoc at 2 p.m.

Newton County was only able to win one match as they fell to Jackson Prep.
In singles, Donald Blake lost 6-0, 6-0 on the boys side while Ava Espey fell 6-3, 6-0 on the girls side.
In mixed doubles, Kamryn Rodriguez and Emily Stewart lost 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot while Lauren Addy and Marilyn Tullos won 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot for County’s only point.
On the boys side, Daylon Nance and Parker Chaney lost 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot while Lee Hill and Tate Baucum lost 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
In mixed doubles, Cole Tadlock and Brenah Flint lost 6-2, 6-1.

County opened up Division 5-4A play with a dominant win over Northeast Lauderdale.
In singles, Newton County’s Keenan Selman took a 6-1, 6-2 on the boys side while Ava Espey won 6-0, 6-0 on the girls side.
In doubles, Newton County didn’t give up a point on the boys side as Daylon Nance and Lee Hill won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Tate Baucum and Cole Tadlock won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
In girls doubles, Kamryn Rodriguez and Lauren Addy won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Marilyn Tullos and Maggie Bounds won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
In mixed doubles, Parker Chaney and Emily Stewart won 6-0, 6-0.
