The Newton County Lady Cougars split a pair of games last week, dropping just their fourth game of the year.
Newton County lost 13-5 to Brandon on Monday but bounced back to take a 19-7 win over Northeast Lauderdale on Tuesday.
Newton County moves to 18-4 on the season and will take on rival West Lauderdale in a two-game series this week. The Lady Cougars will play at West on Tuesday and host the Lady Knights on Thursday. The Lady Cougars will host Northeast Lauderdale on Friday in a makeup game from last week. The Lady Cougars host Enterprise on Tuesday, April 16 to end the regular season.

The Lady Cougars sued a 10-run third inning to take a 12-run win over the Lady Trojans in division play on Tuesday night.
County scored four in the first, one the second and 10 in the third before Northeast scored six in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 15-6. County added two in the fourth and fifth while Northeast added one in the fourth.
County banged out 16 hits in the contest as Lizzy Hollingsworth was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and four RBIs while Shelby Anderson was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Brittany Thomas was 2-for-5 with three runs scored while Lanie Phillips was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Lorren Ivey was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Alex Weir doubled, scored twice and had four RBIs. Katelyn Gipson doubled while Landree Amis was 2-for-2. Brelie Phillips also scored four runs as a courtesy runner.
Ivey started in the circle and pitched five innings, giving up seven runs, only three earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out two.
Brandon 13, County 5
The Lady Cougars suffered their fourth loss of the season at the hands of the Lady Bulldogs on Monday.
Newton County led 5-4 after two innings before Brandon scored two in the third, six in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the win.
County had just five hits in the contest, led by Brittany Thomas who doubled and drove in two runs. Katelyn Gipson and Shelby Anderson each singled, scored and drove in a run while Lanie Phillips singled and drove in a run. Karlye Tolbird also singled and scored.
Thomas started in the circle and pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up 12 runs on nine hits and five walks. Natalie Lampton pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and gave up one run on four hits.
