The Lake Hornets swept a two-game series from rival Scott Central and set up this week’s Division 4-2A championship series with Union.
The Hornets beat Scott Central 6-3 and 16-5 before dropping a 7-2 decision to Nanih Waiya on Saturday.
Lake, now 14-5 on the season, will take on Union in a two-game series this week to determine the Division 4-2A championship. Lake will host Union on Tuesday and travel to the Yellowjackets on Thursday. The Hornets will host Pelahatchie on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will finish out the regular season on Monday as they host Noxapater for Senior night.
Lake 6, Scott Central 3
The Hornets used a five-run fifth inning and took a three-run win over the Rebels on Tuesday in a 4-2A contest.
Lake scored one in the third and five in the fifth to lead 6-0. Scott Central added two in the sixth and one in the seventh for the final margin.
Lake had nine hits in the contest with the big blow being a grand slam home run by Ben Moore in the fifth. Brady McGee had a pair of triples while Noah Essary and Nathon Lott also had a pair of singles.
Essary started on the mound and pitched six innings, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two. McGee pitched the final inning to pick up the save as he struck out two.
Lake 16, Scott Central 5
After a tight contest on Tuesday night, the Hornets made sure it wasn’t close on a game moved to Wednesday.
Scott Central went up 3-0 in the first inning before Lake responded with five in the second and fifth and three in the third and fourth innings to take a five-inning, run-rule win.
Lake had 10 hits but had nine batters hit by a pitch to reach base. Noah Thornton was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Seth Harrison was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Nathan Lott doubled, drew two walks and drove in four runs while Mickey Parker tripled, scored two runs and had four RBIs. Ben Moore was 2-for-4 with a double while Easton Tune scored three runs. Brady McGee and Jalen Gray each scored two runs apiece.
McGee started on the mound and pitched all five innings as he gave up five runs on seven hits while striking out three.
Nanih Waiya 7, Lake 2
The Hornets led the two-time defending Class 1A champions for four innings before the Warriors scored six runs in the fifth and took a five-run win on Saturday.
Lake scored two in the third and led 2-0 after four innings before Nanih Waiya scored six in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Lake had six hits in the contest, led by Brady McGee who was 3-for-4 and scored a run. Will Geter singled and drove in a run while Nathan Lott and Seth Harrison each had singles for Lake.
Seth Harrison started and pitched the first four innings, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks while Logan Palmer pitched one inning and gave up two unearned runs on three walks. Lott pitched the last two innings and gave up one run on two hits.
