The Newton County Academy Generals won three out of four contests this past week, including a pair of district wins.
The Generals swept Prentiss Christian, winning 16-0 and 23-4 in district play and then hammered Central Hinds 18-3 in Saturday before falling 9-3 to Tri-County Academy.
NCA, now 8-11 on the season, will play Sylva Bay in a key district series this week. The Generals will travel to Sylva Bay on Tuesday and host the Saints on Thursday. The Generals will end the week on Saturday as they host Wayne Academy at 1 p.m.
NCA 16, Prentiss Christian 0
The Generals needed just 2 1/2 innings to take a run-rule win over the Saints on Tuesday.
The Generals scored 11 in the first and five in the second.
Braxton Thoms was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs while Kemp Alderman was 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs. Hayden Wall was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while Alec Thompson singled and drove in three runs. Lincoln Jordan, Hays West and Wesley Williams all scored two runs apiece.
Alderman started on the mound and pitched two hitless innings and struck out five. Williams pitched the final inning and gave up one hit and a walk while striking out two.
NCA 23, Prentiss Christian 4
The Generals needed only three innings and took a run-rule win over the Saints on Thursday.
NCA scored 13 runs in the first, followed by five in the second and third innings. Prentiss scored its four runs in the first inning.
NCA had 11 hits and drew 13 walks in the contest. Hayden Wall was 2-for-2 with a triple, two walks, three runs scored and five RBIs. Alec Thompson was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs. Kemp Alderman was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Braxton Thoms walked three times, scored twice and had two RBIs while Lee Hollingsworth and Hays West each scored twice and had two RBIs. Lincoln Jordan and Harber Reese each had two walks while Wesley Williams scored four runs.
Hayden West started and gave up four unearned runs on one hit and three walks in one inning. Alec Thompson pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out two and walked two. Haden Wall pitched the final 2/3 of an inning, striking out one.
NCA 18, Central Hinds 3
The Generals used a pair of big innings and took a 15-run win over the Cougars on Saturday.
NCA scored two in the first and fourth along with six in the third and eight in the fifth.
NCA had 13 hits, drew five walks and had four reach on errors. Dalton Sibley was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs while Hays West was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Braxton Thoms was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Hayden Wall was 2-for- with three RBIs. Wesley Williams and Hayden West each scored three runs while Lee Hollingsworth scored two runs.
Alec Thompson started on the mound and pitched three innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out two. Wall pitched the final inning and gave up two runs on two hits and two walks.
Tri-County 9, NCA 3
The Rebels used four two-run innings to take a six-run win over the Generals on Saturday.
NCA scored two in the top of the first and one in the third while Tri-County scored two in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings.
NCA had five hits as Kemp Alderman was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Braxton Thoms singled, walked twice and scored a run. Jacob Smith and Hayden West each had singles.
Austin Upton started and pitched 1 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits while striking out one. Harber Reese pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on two hits and a walk. Wesley Williams and Jacob Smith each pitched one inning apiece and gave up one run.
