The Newton County Academy Generals secured a place in the Class AA playoffs with a two-game sweep of Clinton Christian last week.
The Generals won 12-2 on Monday and then finished off the series with a 12-4 win over the Warriors on Tuesday.
NCA improves to 13-12 on the season and will host Centreville on Tuesday in the first round of the playoffs in a 5 p.m. contest. The Generals will travel to Centreville on Thursday for a 4 p.m. contest with an if-necessary game to follow.
NCA 12, Clinton Chr. 4
The Generals scored eight in the first and held that advantage to sweep the Warriors on Tuesday.
NCA led 8-1 at the end of the first and added single runs in the third and seventh and two in the sixth. Clinton scored two in the third and one in the fourth.
NCA outhit Clinton 13-4 in the contest, led by Braxton Thoms who was 5-for-5 with a double, triple, three runs scored and three RBIs. Harber Reese was 3-for-3 with a double while Hayden West was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Lincoln Jordan singled and drove in three runs while Kemp Alderman drew three walks and had two stolen bases while Alec Thompson had two walks. Lee Hollingsworth scored two runs for the Generals.
Hayden West started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out nine. Thompson pitched the final two innings and struck out two.
NCA 12, Clinton Christian 2
The Generals got a six-inning one hitter from Kemp Alderman to take a run-rule win over the Warriors on Monday.
NCA scored two runs in the first and second innings and led 4-1 after three innings. Clinton added one run in the fourth while NCA finished with four in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.
NCA had 14 hits in the contest as Hayden West was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Braxton Thomas was 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored while Hays West was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Alec Thompson was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Lincoln Jordan was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Harber Reese was also 2-for-3 while Wesley Williams scored two runs. Alderman walked twice, doubled and had two RBIs.
Alderman was dominant on the mound, pitched all six innings, giving up one hit and three walks while striking out 14.
