The Newton County Academy tennis team finished out the regular season in fine fashion with a 9-0 shutout win over rival Sylva Bay.
The Generals will now host the Class AA South State Tournament on Tuesday at East Central.
“I like our chances going into South State,” NCA coach Pete Mazella said. “I think we have a shot to winning every event. I think we are peaking at the right time. It has been a long stressful season but we can see the finish line and the team is hungry for a championship.”
In girls singles, Tori Evans took a tough 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot while Piper Rose took a forfeit win at the No. 2 spot.
In girls doubles, Marla Graham and Anna Moore cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot while Belle and Lilly Hollingsworth took a forfeit win at the No. 2 spot.
On the boys side, Luke Alexander won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Micah Douglas won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
In No. 1 doubles, Patrick Williams and Ethan McDill won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Eli Finnegan and Jordan Mason won by forfeit at the No. 2 spot.
In mixed doubles, Anna Turner and Tripp Blasingame won 6-0, 6-0.
