Lake’s Seth Harrison had himself one for the books last week.
The 6-foot-2 senior right hander threw a two-hitter and drove in two runs at the plate as the Hornets took a crucial game 3 from New Site, beating the Royals 11-1 to advance to the third round of the Class 2A playoffs.
“Seth threw the ball extremely well,” Lake coach Jack Nester said. “That’s probably the best he’s pitched this season and he couldn’t have done it at a better time. He commanded his curve ball and kept them off balance. I’m really proud of him and that shows that we have a game 3 starter that we can depend on.”
Nester said the Hornets hit two of their goals by winning the series.
“One of the goals we set before the season was to make it past the second round of the playoffs,” Nester said. “Six out of my seven years here, we have lost in the second round so that was a big deal for our kids. And one of our other goals was to get to 20 wins and we did that tonight. We didn’t put a lot of balls in play on Saturday, so we came in on Sunday and put in an extra practice and it paid off today.”
Lake improves to 20-7 on the season and will now take on Ingomar in the third round of the Class 2A playoffs.
