The Newton County Academy Generals won two of three contests last week but the one loss was a big one.
The Generals split their series with Sylva Bay, winning game one of the series 12-3 but losing 12-6 on Friday. The Generals finished up the week with a 10-5 win over Wayne Academy on Saturday.
NCA will have the week off from district play and was scheduled to play Meridian Homeschool at Q.V. Sykes on Monday and turn around and host them on Thursday in their only games this week.
The next week, the Generals will then take on Clinton Christian in a crucial two-game series. NCA needs a sweep of Clinton and Sylva-Bay to lose both of their games to league-leading Brookhaven to make the playoffs.
NCA 12, Sylva Bay 3
The Generals broke open a close game with five runs in the fourth and took a nine-run win over the Saints on Tuesday.
NCA scored four in the top of the first before Sylva Bay scored three in the bottom of the first. NCA added single runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings with five in the fourth inning.
NCA outhit Sylva Bay 13-3 in the contest as Alec Thompson was 3-for-4 on the game with a double and two runs scored. Braxton Thoms was 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Dalton Sibley was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Lincoln Jordan was 2-for-3 and scored one runs while Kemp Alderman walked four times, scored three runs but had a three-run home run for the Generals. Hays West was hit by a pitch twice and scored two runs.
Alderman got the start on the mound and pitched six innings, giving up three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out 14. Thompson pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Sylva Bay 12, NCA 6
The Saints used a six-run fourth inning and held on to take a six-run win over the Generals on Friday.
Sylva Bay scored single runs in the first, second and third to lead 3-1 before exploding six runs in the fourth and three in the seventh. NCA scored one in the fourth and sixth and three in the seventh.
NCA had just five hits, led by Hayden West who was 2-for-4. Kemp Alderman walked three times and had a two-run home run, his eighth of the season for the Generals.
Hayden West pitched the first 3 1/3 innings and gave up nine runs on 14 hits while striking out three. Alec Thompson pitched the next 2 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on one hit and four walks. Hays West pitched the last inning and gave up one run on two hits.
NCA 10, Wayne Academy 5
Kemp Alderman homered for the third straight game and hit his ninth of the year in a five-run win over the Jaguars on Saturday.
NCA scored two in the first and four in the third and fourth innings. Wayne scored three in the third and one in the fourth and fifth innings.
NCA outhit Wayne 13-12 in the contest, ld by Hayden West who was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Kemp Alderman was 2-for-2 with a double, home run, two walks, three runs scored and three RBIs. Dalton Sibley was also 2-for-4 while Harber Reese singled and drove in two runs. Hays West was also 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.
Jacob Smith got the start on the mound and pitched 2 1/3 inning, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks. Austin Upton pitched two innings and gave up two runs on five hits and who walks while Hayden Wall pitched 2 2/3 innings and scattered three hits while striking out four.
