Neshoba County wasn’t kind to Lake last week, handing the Lady Hornets a pair of losses.
Lake lost 8-1 to defending 5A state champion Neshoba Central on Monday and lost 6-3 in a 4-2A showdown with Philadelphia. In other action, Lake hammered Newton 16-1, beat Nanih Waiya 6-1 and beat Ethel 7-4 on Saturday.
Lake, now 12-6 on the season, will travel to Puckett on Monday. On Thursday, Lake will travel to Union in another big 4-2A showdown game.
Neshoba Central 8, Lake 1
The Lady Hornets struggled at the plate against the state’s top pitcher in a seven-run loss on Monday.
Neshoba scored two in the first, one in the second and three in the third to build a 6-0 lead.
Lake scored its one run in the sixth as Hannah Wilkerson drove in Jordan McLemore with an RBI double. Alana Edmonds had Lake’s other hit with a double.
Taylor Duncan pitched all six innings, giving up eight runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out four.
Neshoba’s Aspen Wesley pitched all seven innings and struck out 19.
Lake 16, Newton 1
Lake scored 15 runs in the first inning and took a run-rule win in three innings.
Lake had 11 hits in the contest as Hannah Wilkerson was 2-for-2 with two home runs and three RBIs. Reagan Clark was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Landry LeBlanc and Kaytie Hillman were each 2-for-2. Olivia Clay, Laurel Breland and Alana Edmonds each scored two runs.
Jordan McLemore pitched one inning and struck out one while Olivia Clay pitched the second and gave up two hits and one run. Kate Gladney pitched a scoreless third inning.
Philadelphia 6, Lake 3
The Lady Tornadoes scored five runs in the last three innings to take a three-run win on Thursday in a 4-2A contest.
With the score tied at 1-1 after four innings, Philly scored three in the fifth and two in the seventh. Lake added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Lake had eight hits in the contest as Alana Edmonds was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Taylor Duncan was also 2-for-3 with a double while Laurel Breland doubled and scored. Reagan Clark, Hannah Wilkerson and Olivia Clay also singled.
Taylor Duncan pitched seven innings and gave up six runs on nine hits and six walks while striking out five.
Lake 6, Nanih Waiya 1
Lake scored four runs in the third inning to take a time-limit win over the Lady Warriors on Saturday.
Lake had eight hits in the contest as Landry LeBlanc was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI. Laurel Breland and Olivia Clay each had triples and drove in a run apiece. Alana Edmonds and Hannah Wilkerson each had doubles while Taylor Duncan singled and scored.
Olivia Clay got the start and pitched 3 2/3 innings to pick up the win, giving up one run on five hits with four strikeouts.
Lake 7, Ethel 4
Lake scored in each of the first three innings to take a three-run win over Ethel in a time-limit game on Saturday at Sebastopol.
Lake scored three in the first, followed by two in the second and third innings.
Lake had 10 hits in the contest as Taylor Duncan was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored. Laurel Breland was 2-for-2 while Olivia Clay drove in two runs. Reagan Clark and Hannah Wilkerson each had singles and drove in runs while Landry LeBlanc and Jordan McLemore each had singles.
Jordan McLemore got the start and pitched 2 1/3 innings as she gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks. Kate Gladney pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up just one hit.
