The Lake Hornets got the offense going this week as they scored at least 10 runs in all four games they played, winning three of those contests.
The Hornets swept Division 4-2A foe Philadelphia as they beat the Tornadoes 16-2 and 15-3. The Hornets lost 18-10 to Quitman on Saturday but rebounded to beat Forest 17-4 later in the day.
Lake improves to 12-4 on the season and will take on Scott Central in a two-game series in 4-2A play this week. The Hornets will host the Rebels on Tuesday and travel to Scott Central on Friday. On Saturday, the Hornets will host two-time defending 1A state champion Nanih Waiya on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Lake 15, Philadelphia 3
The Hornets scored in five of the six innings played and took a run-rule win over the Tornadoes on Tuesday.
Lake scored three in the first, third and fourth and led 9-3. They added two in the fifth and four in the sixth for the final.
Lake outhit Philadelphia 10-6 but the Tornadoes committed six errors. Nathan Lott led the Hornets at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs while Seth Harrison was 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Brady McGee was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Will Geter had a two-run home run while Miles Johnson and Jalen Gray each scored two runs apiece.
Noah Essary started on the mound and pitched six complete innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out four.
Lake 16, Philadelphia 2
The Hornets used pair of six-run innings to take a second run-rule win over the Tornadoes on Friday.
Lake scored one in the first, six the second and fourth and three in the third.
Lake had 11 hits and drew six walks. Brady McGee had a big game, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. Nathan Lott was 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two RBIs while Will Geter was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Seth Harrison was 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Noah Essary singled and scored three runs. Easton Tune and Kel Harrison each scored two runs apiece.
McGee started on the mound and pitched all five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out 11.
Quitman 18, Lake 10
The Hornets suffered their only loss of the week on Saturday, falling to the Class A Panthers by eight.
Quitman led 7-4 after three innings before scoring six in the fourth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh. Lake scored two in the fourth and four in the fifth but couldn’t close the gap.
Quitman outhit Lake 19-12 in the contest. Nathan Lott was 2-for-3 with a double and triple and one run scored. Brady McGee was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored while Noah Thornton was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Seth Harrison was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Ben Moore singled and drove in two runs. East Tune singled and scored twice.
Seth Harrison got the start and pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on six hits and three walks. Will Geter pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up seven runs, only two earned on seven hits and two walks while striking out three. Nathon Lott pitched the final inning and gave up four runs on six hits and a walk.
Lake 17, Forest 4
The Hornets scored in every inning to take a five-inning, run-rule win over the Bearcats in the second game of the day on Saturday.
Lake scored three in the first and third and seven in the second to lead 13-1 after three. Forest scored three in the fourth before Lake added two in the fourth and fifth.
Lake outhit Forest 12-6 and drew 12 walks. Noah Essary was 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Brady McGee was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs. Nathon Lott was 2-for-3 with three runs scored while Ben Moore was 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks. Noah Thornton singled, walked three times, scored twice and had two RBIs while Mickey Parker doubled, walked twice, scored two runs and had two RBIs.
Riley Bell started for the Hornets on the mound and pitched all five innings, giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out three.
