Newton County Academy tennis coach Pete Mazzella was concerned when he heard that Brookhaven Academy had fell to Class AA.
But Mazzella had little room to worry as his defending state champions took a 7-2 win over Brookhaven on Thursday.
The Generals took all four boys points in the win. Micah Douglas won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Tripp Blassingame won 1-6, 6-4, 11-9 in a third-set tiebreaker.
In boys doubles, Luke Alexander and Ethan McDill won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Patrick Williams and Jordan Mason won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
In mixed doubles, Kelli Hollingsworth and Eli Finnegan to a 6-2, 7-6(5) win.
On the girls side, Tori Evans lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Ashley Barnett lost 6-3, 6-0.
NCA won both of the girls doubles points while as Kayla Douglas and Anna Moore won 6-0, 7-6(3) at the No. 1 spot and Marla Graham and Piper Rose won 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
NCA has a full week ahead of them as they will go to Jackson Victors on Monday and host Sylva Bay on Tuesday and Union on Wednesday.
