The Newton County Academy Lady Generals split a pair of division contests this past week, beating rival Sylva Bay 4-3 and dropping a 3-1 decision to Brookhaven.
The Lady Generals were scheduled to host Prentiss on Monday and travel to East Rankin on Tuesday. They will host Kemper on Thursday to round out the week.
The Lady Generals got a key district win against rival Sylva Bay on Monday.
NCA scored one run in the bottom of the first inning while Sylva Bay answered with one in the top of the second to tie the game. The Lady Generals went back ahead with a single run in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 2-1. But Sylva Bay answered with two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. NCA then scored two in the bottom of the fifth to take the win.
NCA had seven hits in the contest as Belle Hollingsworth was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Kaleigh Cosgrove was also 2-for-3 with an RBI while Marla Graham, Amber Garrison and Jordan Russell each had hits for NCA. Taylor Evans drew two walks and scored a run while Russell also scored a run.
Taylor Evans picked up the win on the mound as she pitched all seven innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out four and walking none.
Brookhaven 3, NCA 1
The Lady Generals made the long road trip to Brookhaven and managed only three hits in a two-run loss.
NCA scored its only run in the second inning while Brookhaven scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings.
Lexi Bounds had a solo home run to lead NCA at the plate while Belle Hollingsworth and Jordan Russell added singles.
Taylor Evans pitched six innings and took the loss, giving up 10 hits and just one earned run while striking out four.
