After a slow start to the season, the Newton County Academy Generals won two of four games this past week.
After losing 4-1 to Simpson on Tuesday, the Generals beat Southeast Lauderdale on Wednesday. The Generals then hammered Kemper Academy 21-2 on Friday before losing 7=3 to Leake Academy on Saturday.
NCA (4-7) opened district play on Tuesday with Brookhaven. The Generals will return the trip on Thursday, as they travel to Brookhaven. NCA will finish up the week on Saturday at Waynesboro to play Lamar at 10 a.m. and Richton at 12:15 p.m.
Leake Academy 7, NCA 3
The Generals fell behind 5-0 and dropped a four-run decision to the Rebels on Saturday.
Leake scored three in the first and two in the third and sixth. NCA scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Generals had six hits on the day as Logan Little was 2-for-3 and scored a run. Braxton Thoms and Hays West each singled and scored a run while Kemp Alderman doubled and walked twice.
Hayden Wall got the start and gave up five runs on six hits and struck out two while Hayden West pitched the next two innings without giving up a turn and striking out two. Wesley Williams pitched an inning and gave up two runs on two hits while Alec Thompson pitched the final inning and gave up two hits and struck out two.
NCA 21, Kemper Academy 2
The Generals had 10 hits, nine walks and five hit batters as they took a five inning, run-rule victory over the Rams on Friday.
After each team scored two in the first, NCA scored five in the second, six in the third and eight in the fourth to take the win.
NCA had 10 hits in the game as Alec Thompson had a big day, going 3-for-3 and driving in six runs with a double. Logan Little was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs while Harber Reese was 2-for-2 with a double. Hayden West had a double and scored three runs and had three RBIs. Braxton Thoms had three walks and scored three runs. Kemp Alderman walked twice and scored two runs while Hayden Wall had three RBIs and Micah Douglas added two RBIs.
Austin Upton pitched two innings and gave up two unearned runs on four hits and three walks while Logan Little pitched 2 1/3 innings and struck out five. Micah Douglas pitched the final 2/3 of an inning and gave up one hit and struck out one.
NCA 6, Southeast Lauderdale 1
The Generals held the Tigers to two hits and took a five-run win on Wednesday.
NCA scored four in the fourth and two in the sixth while Southeast had one run in the sixth.
NCA had seven hits as Hayden West was 2-for-3 with four RBIS while Hays West was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Kemp Alderman also had a double while Sam Mayes scored two runs.
Alderman pitched five innings and gave up two hits and walked four while striking out eight. Hays West pitched the final inning and gave up one run on one hit.
Simpson Academy 4, NCA 1
The Generals outhit the Cougars 7-2 but still dropped a three-run decision on Tuesday.
Simpson scored one in the third while NCA scored one in the fourth to tie game at 1-1. Simpson then scored three in the fifth to take the win.
Braxton Thoms and Kemp Alderman were each 2-for-3 for the Generals.
Hayden West got the start for the Generals and pitched four innings and gave up three runs on one hit and three walks while striking out four. Alec Thompson pitched an inning and gave up one run on one hit and one walk.
