The Newton County Cougars dropped a pair of contests this past week.
The Cougars lost 5-0 to Presbyterian Christian on Friday and then lost 8-3 to Southeast Lauderdale on Saturday.
Newton County (4-6) will try to get back in the Division 5-4A race, as they will traveled to Quitman on Tuesday and took on former assistant Matt Boone. The Cougars will host the Panthers on Friday. On Saturday, the Cougars will play East Webster at 11 a.m. and will play South Jones at 6:30 p.m.

The Cougars managed only three hits as they were shut out by Presbyterian on Friday.
Tyler Cavenaugh had a double for County while Rod Evans and Cole Shimfessel each had singles.
Gatlin Huber pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four. Jacob Hitt pitched one scoreless inning and gave up two hits and one walk. Tyson Wood pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up one hit and struck out one.

The Cougars grabbed an early lead before Southeast rallied and scored in every inning to take a five-run win.
County scored all three of its runs in the first before Southeast scored single runs in the first, second, third and fifth while scoring two in the fourth and sixth.
Tucker Fitch had a triple and scored while David Burton doubled and drove in a run. Tyson Wood had a single and drove in a run while Rod Evans walked and scored a run.
Jacob Hitt pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on 11 hits with one walk. Tyler Cavenaugh pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits and four walks while Wood pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
