It was a rough week on the diamond for the Newton County Academy softball team, losing three of four contests.
The Lady Generals started the week out with a 6-1 win over Brookhaven on Monday before being no-hit by Clinton Christian in a 6-0 loss. Then on Saturday, NCA feel 4-3 and 5-4 to Hillcrest.
On Thursday, NCA will travel to Hartfield and on Saturday the Lady Generals will go to the Brookhaven Tournament.
NCA 6, Brookhaven 1
The Lady Generals broke open a close game with four runs in the fifth inning for a five-run win over visiting Brookhaven on Monday.
The Lady Generals only had four hits but took advantage of five Brookhaven errors. Taylor Evans had the big hit in the game with a three-run double in the fifth. Lexi Bounds had a single and scored two runs while Kelli Hollingsworth had a single and scored. Marla Graham had a single and drove in a run while Jordan Russell and Amber Garrison also had RBIs.
Taylor Evans got the win, pitching seven innings and give up seven hits and one run while striking out eight.
Clinton Christian 6, NCA 0
The Lady Generals didn’t have a hit as 2A contender Clinton Christian took a shutout win on Tuesday.
Taylor Evans gave up 13 hits and six earned runs while walking two.
Hillcrest 5, NCA 4
Hillcrest scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a one-run win over the Lady Generals in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
NCA had five hits in the contest as Kelli Hollingsworth was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Riley Usry had a two runs single while Belle Hollingsworth had a single and scored a run. Taylor Evans had NCA’s other hit.
Jordan Russell pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on four hits, four walks while striking out four. Taylor Evans got the final out in the sixth with a strikeout.
The Lady Generals jumped out to a 3-0 lead but couldn’t hold on for the win.
NCA had just two hits as Anna Turner had a single and drove in a run. Kaleigh Cosgrove also had a single and scored a run.
Taylor Evans pitched all six innings and gave up four unearned runs on five hits and struck out five.
