The Newton County Lady Cougars grabbed a much-needed win last week.
The Lady Cougars overcame a big first-half deficit and beat Mendenhall 47-42 on Friday night. They lost their other game last week to Northeast Jones 47-30.
The Cougars lost both games last week, falling 51-33 to Mendenhall and 83-55 to Northeast Jones.
Newton County will travel to rival West Lauderdale on Tuesday and will host Northeast Lauderdale on Friday night.
Newton County girls 47, Mendenhall 42
The Lady Cougars overcame a big first-half deficit and came back to take a five-point win over the Lady Tigers on Friday.
Newton County led 13-11 at the end of the first before Mendenhall outscored the Lady Cougars 21-4 in the second to take a 32-17 lead at the half. The Lady Cougars started to mount the comeback in the second half as they outscored Mendenhall 17-7 in the third to cut the lead to 39-34. The Lady Cougars completed the comeback in the fourth as they outscored the Lady Tigers 13-3 to take the win.
Keasja Wansley led Newton County with 17 points while Hannah McDougle had 10 points. Nahriah Brown had seven points while Remini Nickey added six points.
Mendenhall boys 51,

The Tigers outscored the Cougars in every period as they took an 18-point win.
Mendenhall led 12-7 at the end of the first and 25-13 at the half. The Tigers continued to extend the lead in the second half, outscoring the Cougars 12-10 in the third and 14-10 in the fourth.
Jamaal Croft led Newton County with 10 points while Josiah Cleveland had eight points. Justin Thompson and Jared Thames each had six points apiece.
Northeast Jones 47,

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 13-0 lead and held that margin to take a 17-point win over the Lady Cougars on Tuesday.
After Northeast led 13-0 at the end of the first, the Lady Tigers led 24-10 at the half. Northeast Jones outscored Newton County 10-8 in the third and 13-12 in the fourth for the final margin.
Nahriah Brown led Newton County with 14 points while Keasja Wansley had eight points.
Northeast Jones boys 83, Newton County 55
The Tigers used a big second period and took a 28-point win over the Cougars on Tuesday night.
Northeast led 17-11 at the end of the first period before they erupted in the second, outscoring the Cougars 30-10 to take a 47-21 lead at the half. County fought back and outscored Northeast 23-21 in the third to cut the lead to 68-44 heading to the fourth.
Jamaal Croft led Newton County with 13 points while Chris Thomas added 10 points. Josiah Cleveland had eight points while Afton Johnson added six points.
