The Newton Lady Tigers took an early lead in the Division 4-2A standings with a pair of wins last week, including a big win over Philadelphia on Friday night.
The Lady Tigers started the week with a 56-12 win over Lake and then beat Philadelphia 42-28 on Friday.
The Tigers weren’t as fortunate as they split their two division contests. Newton beat Lake 59-48 on Tuesday and then dropped a 47-35 contest to Philadelphia on Friday.
Newton is off until Friday when they will host Union in another key 4-2A contest. Then on Saturday, the Tigers will travel to Bay Springs and take on Kemper County.

The Lady Tigers overcame a slow start and pulled away in the middle periods to take a 14-point win over the Lady Tornadoes.
Philly led 8-7 at the end of the first period before the Lady Tigers exploded in the second period and outscored the Lady Tornadoes 17-6 to take a 24-14 lead at the half. The Lady Tigers extended the lead in the third, outscoring the Lady Tornadoes 13-5 to take a 37-19 lead into the fourth. Philly used a 9-5 fourth period for the final margin.
Myja McNichols led Newton with 17 points while Nia McCalphia had nine points. JaLeah Hickmon had eight points.

The Tornadoes pulled away in the fourth period to take a 12-point win over the Tigers to take an early division lead.
Philly used a steady offense as they outscored Newton 10-9 in the first and 10-6 in the second to lead 20-15 at the half. After each team scored 10 points in the third period, Philly pulled away in the fourth and outscored Newton 17-10 to take the win.
Tyler Bedford led Newton with nine points while Dazmeon Page had eight points.

Lake 12
The Lady Tigers dominated the action as they took a 44-point win over the Lady Hornets to open division 4-2A play on Tuesday.
Newton led 15-4 at the end of the first and then outscored Lake 21-5 in the second to lead 36-9 at the half. Newton continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring Lake 8-3 in the third and 12-0 in the fourth to take the win.
McKinley Ware led Newton with 14 points while Nia McCalphia and JaLeah Hickmon each had 12 points apiece.

Newton built a big lead in the first half and held on to take an 11-point win over the Hornets.
Newton led 14-8 at the end of the first and then outscored the Hornets 18-9 in the second to lead 32-17 at the half. Newton outscored Lake 13-11 in the third and before the Hornets took the fourth 20-14 for the final margin.
Jamarian Pace led Newton with 20 points while Jay Roberts had 11 points. Dazmeon Page and Yorel Phillips each had six points apiece for the Tigers.
