Qualifying is under way for the Newton County School Board districts C and D.
Circuit Clerk Mike Butler announced the opening of qualifying last week according to state law.
Interested candidates must have a petition of not less than 50 qualified electors of the voting district and must be certified by the Circuit Clerk’s Office.
Once the signatures are verified, candidates must begin filing a statement of economic interest with the Mississippi Ethics Commission within 15 days of qualifying for office.
The deadline to qualify for these positions is Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m., the 60th day before the general election in November.
