First-year coach John Alan Darnell has the Union Yellowjackets in position to challenge for the Division 4-2A regular-season title.
The Yellowjackets won two more division games this past week, beating Lake 56-42 and Scott Central 63-58.
The Lady Yellowjackets split a pair of games, beating Lake 43-32 while falling 53-47 to Scott Central.
Union is scheduled to play at Philadelphia on Tuesday, weather permitting, in a huge Division 4-2A contest. Union will travel to Stringer on Friday in a non-division contest. Union will wrap up the regular season next week with a home game on Tuesday against Philadelphia for senior night. They will finish out the regular season on Friday against Newton.
Lake will be off until Friday when they host Newton. Next week, Lake will finish off the regular season as they host Puckett on Tuesday for Senior night and travel to Philadelphia on Friday.
Union girls 43, Lake 32
The Lady Yellowjackets got a big game from senior Ansley Rigby and took a 21-point win over Lake on Tuesday.
The game was tight for the first three periods as Union led 12-8 at the end of the first and 18-13 at the half. Lake cut into the lead in the third, outscoring Union 10-9 to make the score 27-23 heading into the fourth. But Union outscored Lake 16-9 in the fourth to take the win.
Rigby led all scorers with 21 points while Keirra Russell had 10 points. Darnesia Jones led Lake with eight points while D’Nara Barton, Laurel Breland and Monica Pinkston each had five points.
Union boys 56, Lake 42
The Yellowjackets used a steady scoring attack as they beat Lake for the second time in two weeks.
Union jumped out to a 17-11 lead in the first period and led 33-22 at the half. Lake outscored Union 12-11 in the third but the Yellowjackets put the game away by outscoring the Hornets 12-8 in the fourth.
P.J. Gage led Union with 17 points while Kenyon Clay and J.T. Vance each had 11 points apiece. Jamarcus Jones also had eight points.
Zywon Ledbetter had 11 points while Ja’Lann Broadfoot had 10 points and Danarrious Hughes had nine points.
Scott Central girls 53, Union 47
After taking an early lead, Scott Central rallied to take a six-point win over the Lady Yellowjackets on Friday night.
Union jumped out to an 18-11 lead at the end of the first. But Scott Central outscored Union 14-4 to take a 25-22 lead at the half. Scott extended the lead in the third, outscoring Union 20-13 to take a 45-35 lead going into the fourth. Union outscored Scott Central 12-8 in the fourth for the final margin.
Ansley Rigby continued her solid play as she pumped in 22 points while Kamyia Russell had 10 points.
Union boys 63, Scott Central 58
The Yellowjackets remained in the hunt for the Division 4-2A regular-season crown with a five-point win over the Rebels on Friday night.
Union improved to 3-1 in 4-2A play with the win with two key games against Philadelphia upcoming and one against Newton.

Scott Central girls 43, Lake 30
The Lady Hornets fell behind in the first half and and ended up dropping a 13-point decision to Scott Central.
Scott Central led 12-8 at the end of the first and outscored Lake 15-3 in the second to take a 27-11 lead at the half. Lake outscored Scott Central 10-5 in the third to cut the lead to 32-21 but the Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Hornets 11-9 in the fourth to take the win.
D’Nara Barton and Darnesia Jones each had seven points apiece while Laurel Breland added five points.
