The Union Yellowjackets have gotten off to a quick start under first-year coach John Darnell.
The Yellowjackets won four games last week, beating West Lauderdale, Newton County, Sebastopol and Enterprise last week as they improve to 5-0 on the season.
Union will be off for the Thanksgiving holidays and will travel to 1A power Leake County on Tuesday, Nov. 27. They will then play in the Sebastopol Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to end the week.
On Thursday, Union will play Newton County in the as the girls play at 4 p.m. and the boys play at 5:30 p.m.
Union 53, West Lauderdale 50
The Yellowjackets overcame a halftime deficit as they beat Class 4A West Lauderdale on Saturday.
West led 14-11 at the end of first and 27-22 at the half. Union then tightened up the game in the third as they outscored West 12-9 to cut the lead to 36-34 going into the fourth. In the final frame, Union outscored West 19-14 to take the win.
P.J. Gage led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points while J.T. Vance had 13 points. Mark Jones had 11 points and Kenyon Clay added seven points.
Union 54, Newton County 40
After trailing at the end of the first, Union outscored Newton County 35-14 in the middle two periods to take a 14-point win on Friday.
County led 12-11 at the end of the first before Union outscored the Cougars 19-7 in the second as the Jackets led 30-19 at the half. The Jackets expanded that lead in the third period as they outscored the Cougars 14-7 to lead 44-26 after three.
J.T. Vance led Union with 20 points while Mark Jones had eight points. P.J. Gage had seven points and Sage Gunn and Kenyon Clay each had six points apiece.
Lamar Morgan had 15 points to lead Newton County.
Union 67, Sebastopol 41
The Jackets jumped out to big lead in the first period and cruised to the 26-point win on Thursday.
Union jumped out to a 25-6 lead in the first period and led 43-20 at the half. Sebastopol took the third period 14-13 and Union took the fourth 11-7 as the Jackets emptied their bench.
P.J. Gage led Union with 18 points while J.T. Vance had 14 points. Dorian Hunter had 12 points while Sage Gunn had seven, Mark Jones six and E.J. Campbell five.
Union 68, Enterprise 36
The Jackets dominated the first three periods of plays as they look a 32-point win over Enterprise.
Union led 18-6 at the end of the first and then outscored Enterprise 19-7 in the second to lead 37-13 at the half. The Jackets continued to pull away in the third, outscoring Enterprise 21-6 to lead 58-19 at the end of the third.
Dorian Hunter, P.J. Gage and Mark Jones each had 11 points apiece while Kenyon Clay had five points.
