The Union Lady Yellowjackets handed Philadelphia their only division loss of the season on Thursday night with a dramatic 7-6 win over the Lady Tornadoes.
Union also beat Scott Central 15-1 on Tuesday and lost 11-0 to Neshoba Central on Friday.
Union, now 10-9, returns to action on Monday as they will travel to Meridian and will travel to Lake on Tuesday. The winner of Tuesday’s game will be the No. 2 seed in Division 4-2A.
Union 15, Scott Central 1
The Lady Jackets outhit Scott Central 12-1 and took a four-inning, run-rule win on Tuesday.
After each team scored one run in the first inning, the Lady Jackets scored nine runs in the third inning and finished off the Lady Rebels with one in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Union had 12 hits as Mackenzie Dolan was 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Lilly Burton was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Macy Lott was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. DaShayla Jackson scored three times while Abbie Jenkins scored twice. Parker Breland also drove in two runs.
Anna Rigdon pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up one run on one hit and two walks while striking out four. Britli Cleveland got the last out on four pitches.
Union 7, Philadelphia 6
The Lady Jackets handed the Lady Tornadoes their first division loss of the season on Thursday night with a walk-off win.
Philly opened up with three runs in the first inning while Union bounced back with two in the second. Philly scored on in the third to go up 4-2 while the Lady Jackets scored one in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 4-3. Philly added two insurance runs in the seventh inning to go up 6-3 before Union scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Union had six hits in the contest, led by Anna Grace Blount who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Ansley Rigby walked twice and scored two runs while DaShayla Jackson and Parker Breland walked twice. Mackenzie Dolan had Union’s only extra base hit with a double.
Anna Rigdon pitched all seven innings for Union and gave up six runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six.
Neshoba Central 11, Union 0
The defending Class 5A state champions and state’s top-ranked team had little trouble in handing the Lady Jackets a six-inning, run-rule loss.
Neshoba scored one in the first and fourth and two in the third. The Lady Rockets finished out the game with seven runs in the sixth.
Union had just two hits but committed nine errors in the field. Dallas Brown and Mackenzie Dolan had Union’s two hits.
Britli Cleveland pitched all six innings for Union, giving up 11 runs, only three earned, on nine hits and fie walks while striking out three.
Neshoba’s Aspen Wesley, a Mississippi State commit, struck out 12 and gave up two hits.
