The Lake softball team got back on track with two straight wins on Saturday at the West Harrison Tournament.
The Lady Hornets opened the week with a tough 3-2 win over Stone County and the then beat Vancleave 9-0.
Lake, now 4-2 on the season, only has one game scheduled for next week as they are set to go to Mize on Friday. On Tuesday, March 17, Lake will travel to Warren Central and then will travel to Pisgah on Thursday, March 19.
Lake 9, Vancleave 0
The Lady Hornets got a dominant pitching performance from Taylor Duncan and took a 9-0 win over Vancleave in the West Harrison Tournament on Saturday.
Lake scored one in the first, third and fourth innings to lead 3-0 before scoring four in the fifth and two in the seventh.
Lake outhit Vancleave 9-0 in the contest. Alana Edmonds was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Taylor Duncan and Kaytie Hillman each had solo home runs. Brantlee McGee tripled and scored three runs. Landry LeBlanc doubled and drove in two runs. Abbie McGee also doubled and drove in a run.
Duncan was dominant on the mound, scattering three hits and four walks. striking out nine in seven complete innings to pick up the win.
Lake 3, Stone County 2
The Lady Hornets scored three runs in the fifth inning and held on to beat Class 4A Stone County on Saturday at the West Harrison tournament.
Stone went ahead 2-0 with a pair of runs in the third inning before Lake scored their three runs in the fifth.
Stone County outhit Lake 8-4. Reagan Clark was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Lady Hornets. Alana Edmonds and Kate Gladney had Lake’s other hits. Tra’Shaylah Wilson also had three stolen bases for Lake.
Kate Gladney got the start, pitched six innings, gave up two runs on six hits and three walks and struck out five to pick up the win. Taylor Duncan came in and pitched the seventh inning, giving up two hits but striking out two to pick up the save.
