Both Lake basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end last week in first-round playoff action.
The Lady Hornets lost 47-35 to East Marion while the Hornets lost 44-36 to North Forrest.
East Marion girls 47, Lake 35
The Lady Hornets couldn’t hold onto a first-half lead, as the Lady Eagles took a 12-point win on Monday in first-round playoff action.
Lake led 11-7 at the end of the first period and 19-14 at the half. But East Marion took control of the game in the second half, outscoring Lake 15-12 to lead 29-21 going to the fourth period.
LaNeisha Palm led Lake with 19 points while D’Nara Barton, Laurel Breland and Tra’Shaylah Wilson each had seven points apiece.
“I’m proud of the steps we made this season to make Lake women basketball program known again,” Lake coach Maurice Bowie said. “But we had higher goals and expectations so we know we have more work to do for next season both mentally and physically.”
North Forrest boys 44, Lake 36
The Hornets weren’t able to hold onto an early lead as the Eagles took an eight-point win on Tuesday in first-round playoff action.
Lake led 9-4 at the end of the first period before North Forrest outscored the Hornets 17-9 in the second to lead 21-18 at the half. North Forrest extended its lead in the third, outscoring Lake 13-7 to lead 34-25 going to the fourth.
Danarrious Hughes led Lake with 18 points while Jalen Theus had nine points.
