The Lake Lady Hornets opened up the 2020 season with a pair of wins this past Saturday.
After opening with a 13-3 win over Morton, the Lady Hornets took a 4-3 walk-off win over West Lauderdale.
Lake (2-0) was scheduled to play at 2A power Taylorsville on Monday and Raleigh on Tuesday. Lake will then host West Lauderdale on Thursday to finish out the week.
Lake 4, West Lauderdale 3
The Lady Hornets scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to take a walk-off win over the Lady Knights on Saturday.
Lake scored two runs in the first and led 2-1 through four innings. Lake scored one in the fifth and led 3-1 before the Lady Knights scored two in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3. Lake then scored a run in the bottom of the seventh as Abbie McGee walked to score Laneisha Palm and take the win.
Lake outhit West Lauderdale 6-2. Taylor Duncan led the way, going 3-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases. Landry LeBlanc doubled and drove in a run. Laurel Breland singled and drove in a run. McGee scored a run and had two RBIs. Kaytie Hillman also had a single.
Kate Gladney pitched four innings, gave up one unearned run on one hit and struck out seven. Duncan pitched the final three innings, gave up two unearned runs on one hit and struck out five.
Lake 13, Morton 3
The Lady Hornets scored in every inning , taking a run-rule win over the Lady Panthers on Saturday to open the season.
Lake scored four in the first, three in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth.
Lake outhit Morton 13-7 in the contest, led by Landry LeBlanc who was 3-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Kaytie Hillman was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Reagan Clark was 2-for-3 as well. Alana Edmonds singled and drove in two runs while Abbie McGee doubled and scored two runs. Taylor Duncan, Laurel Breland and Josie Gibbs each singled and drove in a run. Tra’Shaylah Wilson also scored three runs.
Taylor Duncan pitched the first two innings and picked up the win, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks. Kate Gladney pitched the final three innings, scattered four hits, gave up just one run and struck out three.
