After a 6-1 loss to Wayne Academy on Tuesday, the Newton County Academy Generals got headed in the right direction on Friday as they beat Park Place 9-4.
NCA, now 5-4 on the season, will play in the Stringer Tournament during spring break as they will play Sylva Bay on Monday at 11 a.m. Then at 1:30 p.m., the Generals will play Union in the first-ever matchup between the two Newton County schools. The Generals will finish out the week on Saturday as they host Leake.
Wayne 6, NCA 1
The Generals struggled at the plate as they dropped a five-run decision to Wayne on Tuesday.
Each team scored one in the first. Wayne went up 2-1 with one in the third. The Jaguars put the game away in the sixth with four runs.
NCA only had three hits as Kemp Alderman had a solo home run in the first inning. Hays West and Hayden West had NCA’s other hits.
Hays West started on the mound and was tagged with the loss, going five innings and giving up four runs on three hits and four walks while striking out nine. Wesley Williams pitched the last inning for NCA.
NCA 9, Park Place 4
The Generals banged out 13 hits and took a five-run win over Park Place on Friday.
NCA scored single runs in the first three innings before Park Place scored three in the bottom of the third to tie the game up at 3-3. NCA then scored five in the fourth and another in the sixth to take the win.
Six NCA players had multiple hits, led by Braxton Thoms who was 2-for-2 with a double, triple, two walks and two RBIs. Kemp Alderman was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Jacob Smith was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Hayden Walk, Harber Reese and Jax Porter all had two singles and scored a run.
Hayden West started and picked up the win in five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out seven. Wesley Williams pitched two hitless innings and struck out two.
