Two of the area’s best pitchers met in Stringer on Monday when Kemp Alderman and Jaylon Buckley met in a public versus private school matchup.
It was Alderman who got the better end of the deal as the Generals took a 4-2 win over the Yellowjackets. NCA also beat rival Sylva Bay 5-1 on Monday.
The Generals finished the week with a 5-4 loss to Class AAAA Lamar School on Friday.
NCA’s regularly scheduled game with Leake Academy on Saturday was cancelled.
NCA was scheduled to play a two-game series with Columbia but those games were cancelled. The MAIS cancelled all games for a week and said it would go week-to-week on opening schools and resuming activities.
NCA 4, Union 2
In a matchup of two of the area’s best pitchers, the Generals took a two-run win over the Yellowjackets in the first-ever matchup between the schools on Monday at Stringer.
The Generals scored two runs in the second and third innings to led 4-0. Union scored its two runs in the seventh inning.
NCA outhit Union 6-5 in the contest. Kemp Alderman was 2-for-2 while Hayden West was 2-for-3. Lee Hollingsworth singled and drove in a run. Braxton Thoms walked twice and scored a run.
Union had five hits, led by J.T. Vance who was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Kolton Cockerham had a solo hot run while Rope Lovern also doubled.
Alderman picked up the win on the mound for the Generals, going 4 2/3 innings and scattering three hits and four walks while striking out nine. Hays West pitched the final 2 1/2 innings and gave up two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out five.
Jaylon Buckley pitched six innings and gave up four runs, only two earned, on six hits and four walks while striking out seven.
NCA 5, Sylva Bay 1
The Generals got a complete game two-hitter from Wesley Williams and took a four-run win over the rival Saints on Monday at Stringer.
The Generals scored one in the second, fifth and sixth innings and two in the fourth. Sylva Bay scored its one run in the sixth.
NCA outhit Sylva Bay 9-2 in the contest. Kemp Alderman was 2-for-2 with two walks while Jax Porter was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Braxton Thoms was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Jacob Smith doubled and drove in a run while Lee Hollingsworth singled and drove in a run.
Williams pitched all seven innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits and one walk with nine strikeouts.
Lamar School 5, NCA 4
The Generals dropped a one-run decision to the Raiders on Friday.
NCA scored one in the first and seventh and two in the third. Lamar scored single runs in the second, fourth and seventh and two in the third as well.
NCA outhit Lamar 7-4 in the contest but committed five errors. Jacob Smith was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Hays West homered and scored two runs. Kemp Alderman drew three walks while Hayden West walked twice. Jax Porter also doubled for the Generals.
Hayden West, an ECCC signee, started and pitched six innings, giving up four runs, only one earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out five. Hays West pitched the last inning and gave up one unearned run.
