It was a rough week on the diamond for the Newton County baseball team.
The Cougars lost 10-0 to Southeast Lauderdale on Friday and then dropped a 12-7 decision to Neshoba Central on Saturday.
Newton County has a pair of games scheduled for this week as they are scheduled to go to South Jones on Friday and then to Southeast Lauderdale on Friday. The Cougars will then return from spring break and begin division play as they host Florence on Tuesday. On Friday, the Cougars travel to Florence before traveling to East Webster on Saturday.

The Cougars managed only one hit as they lost a five-inning, run-rule game to the Tigers on Friday.
Southeast scored two in the first then exploded for eight in the fourth to take the win.
David Burton had County’s only hit.
Jesse Phillips started and pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on five hits and four walks. Tyler Cavenaugh pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on two hits and two walks.
Neshoba Cen. 12, County 7
The Rockets broke open a tie game with eight runs over two innings to take a five-run win over the Cougars on Saturday.
Neshoba led 3-1 after two innings but County tied the game at 4-4 after four innings. Neshoba then scored three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to go up 12-4. County scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the final margin.
Each team had eight hits apiece but County had six errors in the contest. David Burton was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Tyler Cavenaugh was 2-for-3. Justin Davis doubled and drove in two runs. Marcus Mowdy drove in two runs.
Mowdy pitched five innings and gave up eight runs, only four earned, on seven hits and one walk while striking out five. Davis pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up three runs. Tyson Wood pitched the last 1 2/3 innings and gave up one unearned run on one hit and one walk.
