The Newton County boys' soccer team improved to 17-1 on the season as they took three more wins last week, all in blowout fashion.
The Cougars swept Louisville, winning 7-0 on Monday and 8-1 on Tuesday. The Cougars finished out the week with a 6-0 win over Northeast Lauderdale.
The Lady Cougars improved to 12-5 on the season with three wins as well and have now won five in a row. The Lady Cougars beat Louisville 9-0 and 11-0 and then took a hard-fought 3-2 win over Northeast Lauderdale.
In a 7-0 win over Louisville on Monday, the Cougars scored six goals in the first half and added one in the second. Cooper Lewis, Bryan Sanchez, Christian Velazquez, Cade Mangum Will Rushing, Donald Blake and Davi Roldan each had goals in the contest. Cade Mangum had two assists while Blake and Kirthy Yuvaraj also had an assist. Griffin Bailey had the shutout in goal for the Cougars.
On Tuesday, the Cougars took an 8-1 win over Louisville, scoring five goals in the first half and three in the second. Graham Lewis and Davi Roldan each had two goals apiece while Cooper Lewis, Cade Mangum, Will Rushing and Kirthy Yuvaraj each had goals. Cade Cooley, Lee Hill, Christian Velazquez, Cole Tadlock, Samuel Velazquez, Tanner Dailey and Lewis each had assists for the Cougars.
On Thursday, the Cougars traveled to Northeast Lauderdale and took a 6-0 division 5-4A win over the Trojans. County scored two goals in the first period and four in the second to take the win. Malachi Estes and Graham Lewis each scored two goals apiece while Lee Hill and Davi Roldan each had goals. Hill had a big night as he recorded five assists while Roldan also had an assist.
Newton County was scheduled to go to Kosciusko on Tuesday and to West Lauderdale on Friday. Next week, Newton County will host Choctaw Central on Tuesday and Germantown on Friday. They will host Clarkdale on Saturday, Jan. 25.
