The Newton County Lady Cougars picked up two wins last week as they split four games.
The Lady Cougars beat Morton 40-20 on Tuesday and then beat Sebastopol 44-30 on Friday.
The Lady Cougars lost twice to Union in the Sebastopol Tournament falling 34-31 on Thursday and 36-25 on Saturday.
The Cougars got one win last week as they beat Sebastopol 42-40 on Friday and lost to Morton 52-42 on Tuesday. They also lost twice to Union in the Sebastopol Tournament, falling 45-40 on Thursday and 46-35 on Saturday.
Newton County has two home games this week as they will host Union on Tuesday and Puckett on Friday.
County girls 40, Morton 20
The Lady Cougars overcame an early deficit and pulled away to double up the Lady Panthers on Tuesday.
Morton led 10-9 at the end of the first but Newton County used a 13-2 advantage in the second period to lead 22-12 at the half. County outscored Morton 12-4 in the third and 6-4 in the fourth for the final margin.
Remini Nickey led County with 10 points while Christaysia Denson had seven points. Hannah McDougle had six points and Keasja Wansley added five points.
Morton 52, County 42
The Cougars lost point guard Chris Thomas right before the half and the Panthers pulled away in the second half to take a 10-point win on Tuesday.
Morton led 13-7 at the end of the first and 22-20 at the half before losing Thomas. Morton then outscored Newton County 13-10 in the third and 17-12 in the fourth for the final margin.
Jamaal Croft led Newton County with a season-high 20 points.
Newton County girls 44, Sebastopol 30
The Lady Cougars pulled away in the second half to take a 14-point win over the Lady Bobcats on Friday.
County led 15-10 at the end of the first before Sebastopol outscored the Lady Cougars 11-3 to lead 21-18 at the half. Newton County outscored Sebastopol 16-6 in the third and 10-3 in the fourth to take the win.
Keasja Wansley led Newton County with 17 points while Nariah Brown had 11 points. Hannah McDougle also added seven points.
Newton County 42, Sebastopol 40
The Cougars overcame a first-half deficit to take a two-point win over the Bobcats in overtime on Friday.
Sebastopol led 15-10 at the end of the first and 22-16 at the half. Newton County outscored Sebastopol 11-5 in the third to tie the game at 27-27. Each team scored six in the fourth period to force overtime. County outscored Sebastopol 9-7 in the overtime period to take the win.
Davion Hillie led Newton County with 10 points while Miguel Evans had nine points.
