The Newton County Lady Cougars won their eighth straight game and remained unbeaten in Division 5-4A play with a pair of wins last week.
The Lady Cougars took a 54-28 win over Richland on Tuesday and then beat Quitman 57-42 on Friday to improve to 13-7 on the season and 4-0 in 5-4A play.
The Cougars lost both of their games as they fell 71-67 to Richland and 91-43 to Quitman.
Newton County will return to action this week as they host Northeast Jones on Tuesday and will travel to Mendenhall on Friday. On Saturday, Newton County will play Philadelphia in the Philadelphia Invitational.

Richland 28
The Lady Cougars had a big first period and cruised to a 26-point win over the Lady Rangers on Tuesday.
Newton County dominated the first period as they led 25-6 at the end of the first and 40-11 at the half. County outscored Richland 10-8 in the third while Richland took the fourth period 9-4.
Keasja Wansley and Nahriah Brown each had 14 points apiece while Christaysia Denson had nine points.

The Rangers used a third-period advantage to take a four-point win over the Cougars on Tuesday.
Richland led 14-10 at the end of the first before Newton County outscored the Rangers 25-18 in the second to lead 35-32 at the half. But Richland took the lead back in the third as they outscored County 20-12 to lead 52-47 going into the fourth. County outscored Richland 20-19 in the fourth as the Rangers held on for the win.
Josiah Cleveland led County with 22 points while Jamaal Croft had 19 points. Davion Hillie had 15 points while Jared Thames added seven points.

Quitman 42
The Lady Cougars finished strong and pulled away late to take a 14-point win over the Lady Panthers on Friday.
Quitman led 16-12 at the end of the first and 28-24 at the half. County outscored Quitman 18-12 in the third to take a 42-40 lead at the end of the third. County pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Quitman 15-3 to take the win.
Keasja Wansley and Nahriah Brown each scored 14 points while Christaysia Denson added 10 points.

Newton County 42
The Panthers outscored the Cougars in every period to take a 49-point win on Friday night.
Quitman led 30-9 at the end of the first and 51-23 at the half. Quitman continued to extend its led as they outscored County 20-10 in the third and 18-10 in the fourth.
Davion Hillie led County with 13 points while Jamaal Croft had nine points. Josiah Cleveland had eight points and Sebastion Johnson added six points.
