The Newton Lady Tigers took a huge step last week with a comeback for the ages.
Trailing 41-18 at the half, the Lady Tigers outscored Jefferson Davis County 40-8 in the second half to take a 58-48 win on Saturday at the Heidelberg Shootout.
Newton will return to action on Tuesday when they host Southeast Lauderdale and will travel to Jim Hill in Jackson on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers overcame an early deficit and took a 10-point win over the Lady Cougars on Saturday at Heidelberg.
Jeff Davis led 18-5 at the end of the first and 41-18 at the half. But Newton stormed back in the third, outscoring Jeff Davis 23-2 to cut the lead to 43-41. Newton took the lead in the fourth and outscored Jeff Davis 15-7 to take the win.
Ja’Leah Hickmon led Newton with 20 points while Zia Shields had 18 points.
Jefferson Davis boys 80, Newton 64
The Tigers dropped their second game of the week as they fell by 16 to the Cougars on Saturday.

Northeast Lauderdale girls 46, Newton 39
The Lady Trojan pulled away late as they took a seven-point win over the Lady Tigers on Tuesday.
Northeast led 16-14 at the end of the first and 23-18 at the half. Newton outscored Northeast 13-9 in the third to cut the lead to 32-31 going to the fourth. But Northeast outscored Newton 14-8 in the fourth to take the win.
Ja’Leah Hickmon led Newton with 26 points.

The Trojans outscored the Tigers in three of the four periods and took a 13-point win on Tuesday.
Northeast jumped out to a 17-10 lead and outscored the Tigers 14-10 in the second to lead 31-20 at the half. Newton made it close in the third, outscoring Northeast 17-11 to cut the lead to 42-37. But that’s as close as Newton got as Northeast took the final period 19-11 to take the win.
Jayden Parker led Newton with 16 points while Kedrick Osby had 11 points. Rayvion Nettles added 10 points.
