The Union Lady Yellowjackets won three straight games to claim the Sebastopol Tournament title last week.
After a 57-53 loss to Leake County on Tuesday, Union bounced back by beating Newton County 34-31 on Thursday and Ethel 36-31 on Friday. They won the tournament title by beating Newton County in a 36-25 win.
“We’re playing extremely well defensively and playing with a lot of effort,” Union coach Matt Wilbanks said. “All of our preseason conditioning is paying off. It’s making up for our lack of size. I’m proud of the girls bouncing back after a tough loss on Tuesday to beat a really good Newton County team that is twice our size, physically, twice this weekend. And it’s been a complete team effort. Somebody different has stepped up offensively each game here lately.”
Union will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Newton County and then to Nanih Waiya on Thursday. They will then travel to West Lauderdale on Friday and then host Noxapater on Saturday.
